Childhood VaccinesChildhood vaccines are very important for the prevention of deadly diseases. Your newborn should receive vaccinations of DPT, Polio, HIB, Hepatitis B and MMR. Routinely, these shots are given at birth, and then bundled at 1, 2, 4, 6 and 15 months of age. A final series is given at age 5. Tetanus Tetanus is included in the DPT shot for children. Booster shots of tetanus vaccine should be given at age 5 and 10 and then every 10 years. In the case of an animal bite or dirty cut, the tetanus should be given within 72 hours of the bite or cut if there has not been an update given in the last 5 years. Hepatitis B Hepatitis B is a new school recommendation. It prevents a deadly virus that can cause liver disease and death. It is a series of 3 doses given over 6 months time. The doses are usually given at 0, 1 and 6 month intervals and the series must be completed within a year or the series must be restarted. Flu Vaccines |
